The April 21st and October 6th Minute

Our first two Obama Minutes raised nearly $400,000 from over 6,000 of us. On average, we donated $55 per person. We raised most of this money in and around the 1 minute of 1pm on April 21st. This event launched An Obama Minute and set the stage for a grass roots campaign of support for the Barack Obama campaign. An Obama Minute seeks to support Barack Obama’s presidential campaign by orchestrating events that get thousands of regular citizens involved in ways that are meaningful to them and that resonate within the public sphere.

Who are we?

An Obama Minute came about when Scott Cohen, a New York based photographer and filmmaker, decided to get active and invite anyone in his community to do the same. He was responding to something Barack Obama said: “Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.”

Scott’s invitation to his network of friends grew to become a historical moment on April 21st, 2008 when nearly 5,000 people came together and raised over $250,000 in nearly one minute. The first Obama Minute set the stage. Thousands of citizens across the country are not simply joining our movement, they are creating their own movement towards a monumental Obama Minute!

Inspired by the success of the April 21st Obama Minute, a grassroots group came together with us to launch the October 6th Obama Minute. Our goal is to have the strength of all of our voices sound across the country in support of Barack Obama lift the campaign as it goes into the final month. One Voice - One Moment !

Spread the word to 10 friends and our powerful collective voice will usher in a truly historical minute on October 6th.
